After 10 Glorious Years, Sunshine State News and I Are Passing the Baton

Rick Scott and Jennifer Carroll will be blitzing the state, hitting more than a dozen cities in the final days before the election. The Scott campaign just announced a bus tour that will begin just before the final week leading up to Nov. 2. During the six-day tour across Florida, Scott will be joined by his wife Ann, his daughters and mother, Esther. Nominee for lieutenant governor, Rep. Never mind that the impending tightening of class-size reduction standards puts Florida schools in an even more restrictive fiscal strait-jacket. Never mind that research fails to conclusively connect smaller class sizes with higher academic achievement -- even after Florida taxpayers have spent more than $14 billion to lower class-size formulas. The Florida PTA wants to keep throwing money into the class-size maw. Why? Because the Florida Education Association says so.

Republican attorney general candidate Pam Bondi announced on Friday that she was receiving the endorsement of 10 more current and former sheriffs -- raising her total to 35. Bondis new backers include Sheriff John Rutherford of Duval County and two former sheriffs now serving in the Senate -- Charlie Dean and Steve Oelrich.

Just in time for the Rangers taking on the Yankees on Friday night, Rep. Matt Hudson, R-Naples, has launched a new commercial -- playing up his background as a little league umpire. Hudson has a unique district, as he often admits on the House floor and in committee meetings. It touches both coasts and covers parts of Broward and Collier counties. But Hudson does not have a Democratic opponent in November with just Larry Wilcoxon, a candidate with no party affiliation, running to oppose him. Hudson should be safe at home but the commercial could be his attempt to cover his bases.
