Scott and Gillum Disagree on Tallahassee's Hurricane Recovery Speed

Power crews and debris clearers worked through the night trying to restore power to Tallahassee and Leon and Wakulla County homes where thousands of residents were in their fourth day without electricity.

The situation created a verbal sparring match between Gov. Rick Scott, who called the situation disappointing, and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who characterized it as a near-miracle of restoration against all odds.

Hermine's Force Lingers, Over 50,000 Still Without Power in Tallahassee

Over 50,000 people were still without power in Tallahassee following Hurricane Hermine’s landfall late Thursday evening, and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum said it could be quite some time -- possibly a week -- before nearly all of the city regains power.

Federal Judge Questions State on Card Games

A federal judge on Thursday appeared skeptical of the state's defense of how gambling regulators handled controversial "designated player" card games at the heart of a legal challenge by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

During a pre-trial hearing, U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle repeatedly questioned J. Carter Andersen, a lawyer representing the state, about the games, also the subject of recent decisions by state administrative law judges in disputes involving cardroom operators.

With the primaries over, Florida voters can look ahead to the congressional elections in November. There are plenty of new faces headed to Congress after redistricting and a wave of retirements. But most of the competitive congressional races in the Sunshine State were settled in the primary. There are only a handful of truly competitive races left in Florida’s 27 congressional districts and one of them is already in the books. 

With Labor Day marking the traditional start of the general election, here’s where things stand in the congressional races across Florida.
