House Seats 101-105: South Florida Incumbents Appear Headed Back to Tallahassee

August 12, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 101: Rep. Matt Hudson, R-Naples, has one of the most unusual districts in the state, touching both coasts and covering parts of Broward and Collier counties. With no Democrat running to oppose him, Hudson has done well in stockpiling his war chest, spending less than $4,500 of the little more than $116,000 he had raised by the end of July. It does not look like he will need to tap into it too much in the 2010 campaign. Larry Wilcoxson is challenging Hudson as a candidate without party affiliation but he has already spent all of the more than $1,100 he raised by the end of July.

House Seats 96-100: Dems Set to Sweep These Seats in Broward

August 13, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 96: Rep. Ari Porth, D-Coral Springs, is a heavy favorite to return to Tallahassee. With more than $30,000 on hand at the end of July, Porth, who represents parts of Broward County, did not draw a Republican opponent. TEA Party candidate Jason Weakly, who had slightly more than $2,000 on hand at the end of July, will face Porth in November.

House Seats 86-90: Dems Have a Chance at Sweeping These 5 Seats in Palm Beach County

August 13, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 86: With Rep. Maria Lorts Sachs, D-Delray Beach, running for the Senate, the Democrats will keep this seat representing Palm Beach County as no Republican is running in the race. Lori Berman, a former congressional aide and an attorney, appears to have this seat in the bag. Berman raised almost $109,000 and spent more than $63,000. Her opponent in the primary, Carole Penny Kaye, raised less than $5,000, loaned her campaign $2,000 and spent most of that. Berman is a heavy favorite to win the nomination and thus the seat.

House Seats 81-85: Tight Battles and Blowouts in These Races

August 12, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 81: Having raised more than $155,000 with just under $125,000 in the bank, Rep. Adam Fetterman, D-Port St. Lucie, is being challenged by Republican former Rep. Gayle Harrell for this seat representing parts of Martin and St. Lucie counties. Harrell is no slouch when it comes to fund-raising, bringing in more than $110,000 in cash andmore than $50,000 through in-kind donations, but she has already spent almost $45,000. Fetterman is the favorite but this should be an interesting and competitive battle.

House Seats 76-80: Three Races Over; Two Republicans Face Serious Primary Challenges

August 13, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 76: Having chased away all would-be challengers for the seat that Rep. Tom Grady, R-Naples, is vacating, Republican Kathleen Passidomo is the only candidate in the race. This seat represents part of Collier County. Passidomo showed impressive fund-raising abilities -- bringing in more than $70,000 in the two months before she cleared the decks.

House Seats 71-75: Incumbents Have the Edge in 4 of the 5 Races

August 13, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 71: Representing parts of Charlotte, Lee and Sarasota counties, Rep. Ken Roberson, R-Port Charlotte, appears headed for another term in the House. Roberson had around $39,000 in the bank at the end of July. Democratic candidate Andrew Saltman had less than $500 on hand. Unless something drastic happens, Roberson is a heavy favorite to win in November.
