House Seats 96-100: Dems Set to Sweep These Seats in Broward

August 13, 2010 - 6:00pm

House Seat 96: Rep. Ari Porth, D-Coral Springs, is a heavy favorite to return to Tallahassee. With more than $30,000 on hand at the end of July, Porth, who represents parts of Broward County, did not draw a Republican opponent. TEA Party candidate Jason Weakly, who had slightly more than $2,000 on hand at the end of July, will face Porth in November.

House Seat 97: Rep. Marty Kiar, D-Davie, will continue to represent parts of Broward County for another two years as he is the only candidate in the race.

House Seat 98: Republicans would love to knock off Rep. Franklin Sands of Weston who led House Democrats in 2009 and 2010, but it is very unlikely to happen. Representing parts of Broward County, Sands raised almost $95,000 in the race, with more than $61,000 on hand at the end of July. Republican candidate Kim Burgess raised a little more than $1,000 and loaned the campaign $1,800 with around $2,000 still on hand at the end of July. Sands appears headed for victory in this race.

House Seat 99: Rep. Elaine Schwartz, D-Hollywood, will be back in Tallahassee. Representing parts of Broward County, Schwartz does not have any opponents in the race.

House Seat 100: Representing parts of Broward County, Rep. Evan Jenne, D-Fort Lauderdale, had more than $50,000 on hand at the end of July. That should be more than enough to fend off a challenge from Edward Bender who is running without party affiliation. Bender had less than $500 on hand at the end of July.
