The Florida Department of Corrections has opened dorms for military veterans incarcerated at correctional institutions in Santa Rosa, Gulf, Martin, Sumter and Lowell counties.

Cities and counties would be barred from enacting transportation or school impact fees until mid-2015 under a measure filed Tuesday by a Jacksonville Republican.

Sponsored by Rep. Mike Weinstein, the bill (HB 603) would prevent the levying of concurrency fees for roads and schools for development permitted before July 1, 2015 and completed before July 1, 2016.

"I'm trying to help find ways to motivate potential projects and developments to get them off the starting line," said Weinstein, adding that he intends to get a Senate sponsor within the next several days.

A new website -- NotMittRomney.com -- is tapping a vein of Republican discontent with the party's putative front-runner. From snarky videos to searing op-ed articles, the site, launched on Sunday, purveys all things anti-Romney.

"We got tens of thousands of hits [Monday] and it's generating some of the most irrational hate mail I've ever seen," said Ali A. Akbar, who co-founded the site with right-wing blogger John Hawkins.

Gov. Rick Scott and Enterprise Florida are heading next to Israel, which does more than $200 million a year in trade with the Sunshine State.

Scott, who teamed with Enterprise Florida to attend a tourism conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil, last month, announced Tuesday he is off with the Orlando-based public-private economic development organization to Israel for a similar trade mission in December.
