Romney Focus on Economy Key to Florida Victory

Florida GOP primary winner Mitt Romney dominated in large metro areas along both coasts, the important I-4 corridor and scored big with Hispanics.

The results are a marked improvement over his effort in 2008, when Romney finished second to Gov. Charlie Crist-backed U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who swept the Sunshine States large Central and South Florida counties and Hispanic populations.

With Florida Primary Over, Marco Rubio Returns to the Limelight

With the presidential campaign leaving the Sunshine State after Florida Republicans voted in the primary Tuesday, some of the spotlight returns to Marco Rubio, who became a conservative star in the 2010 election cycle by defeating then-Gov. Charlie Crist in the U.S. Senate election.

Appearing on Fox News on Tuesday night, Rubio said Mitt Romneys big win in the GOP primary in the Sunshine State would help him if he emerges to take on President Barack Obama in November. Rubio has not endorsed any of the Republican presidential hopefuls.

How Newt Gingrich's Southern Front Flopped in Florida

Proving that it is less a Southern state and more of a Yankee suburb, Florida awarded former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with a 14-point victory over Newt Gingrich.

Flipping the tables on Gingrich, who carried South Carolina by 12 points just 10 days earlier, Romney piled up huge majorities in Florida's most populous counties.

In Miami-Dade, Romney beat Gingrich 69,653 to 30,394. In Hillsborough, Romney won 43,129 to 25,520 and he carried Broward 35,795 to 22,012.

Mitt Romney ran away with the Florida presidential primary. Newt Gingrich, despite an endorsement from a late-blooming tea party coalition, finished 14 points behind.

Romney's winner-take-all victory only netted him 50 convention delegates because the state's allotment was halved as punishment for jumping the primary schedule. But Gingrich's defeat was a serious blow to tea party activists in search of the "anti-Romney."
