Scott Focus Turning to Asian Markets in Advance of Panama Canal Expansion

Floridas much-traveled governor is expected to focus on Asia for at least one trade mission in 2013.

With trade missions to Spain and Colombia, along with a summer trade exhibition planned for England in the works for this year, Gov. Rick Scott may be the states first governor to visit Japan and South Korea since former Gov. Lawton Chiles in 1997.

You can rest assured that Florida will become much more active in Korea in the years to come, Manny Mencia, Enterprise Florida's senior vice president of international business development, said Tuesday.

Rep. John Mica's FAA Reform Bill Caps Airline-Ticket Subsidies

A Federal Aviation Administration bill curbing costly airline-ticket subsidies broke through a four-year legislative logjam and won final congressional approval Monday.

The measure, sponsored by House Transportation Committee Chairman John Mica, was approved by the Senate, 75-20. Sens. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and Marco Rubio, R-Fla., voted with the majority.

After Democrats failed for four years to pass a long-term bill, this measure, which sets the nations aviation policy and programs and reforms FAA, has finally passed, said Mica, R-Orlando.

Obama Attacked from All Sides for Allying with Super PACs

Having condemned the Citizens United decision and having bashed super PACs, President Barack Obama has flipped on the matter as his campaign manager gave a thumbs up to super PACs that will support the Democrat incumbent in the 2012 election.

The stakes are too important to play by two different sets of rules, Jim Messina, Obamas campaign manager, wrote to supporters late on Monday. If we fail to act, we concede this election to a small group of powerful people intent on removing the president at any cost.

More Toll Roads Coming, With a Fight Over the Money

A growing nationwide trend toward toll roads could see more of them rolling out in Florida.

Under a new federal program that allows selected interstate highways to be reconstructed with tolls, Virginia will add tolls along the I-95 corridor and Missouri will toll its stretch of I-70.

Gov. Rick Scott hailed the extension of toll lanes on I-95 into Broward County last year, saying the move benefits all motorists.

Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum Exchange Jabs on Conservative Credentials
