'Anti-Sharia Law' Bill Passes House Panel; Muslims, ACLU Object

Waving aside objections from the Florida Bar and the ACLU, the House Judiciary Committee approved an "anti-Sharia law" bill on Wednesday.

"We're trying to anticipate problems we see in other states and address them proactively," said Rep. Larry Metz, R-Eustis, sponsor of House Bill 1209.

"This will preclude unjust results in cases where the outcome could be different if we didn't have the bill."

GOP Senate Hopefuls George LeMieux and Connie Mack Rip Into Each Other

The gloves have come off as former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running in the Republican primary to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, took aim at GOP rival U.S. Rep. Connie Mack on Wednesday, attacking the congressmans character and his handling of personal finances -- even comparing Mack to Charlie Sheen.

Mack's camp fired back, attacking LeMieux as an "insiders insider and a truly extraordinary political hack."

LeMieux called Mack the Charlie Sheen of Florida politics before adding that may be disrespectful to Charlie Sheen.

Senate Panel Approves Sale of Partial Social Security Numbers

A "compromise" engineered by state Sen. Jack Latvala sailed through committee Wednesday and left the door open for the continued sale of Floridians' Social Security numbers.

With a brusque call by sponsoring Sen. Garrett Richter, R-Naples, to "move this bill," SB 1208 was quickly passed by the Committee on Government Oversight and Accountability without discussion or debate.

Scott Joins Rally Backing Charter School Construction

Amid a sea of students in yellow shirts, Gov. Rick Scott pushed legislators to advance bills on Wednesday that would require county school districts to loosen their tight grasp on construction money needed to build charter schools.

You know that the future of our state is 100 percent tied to your education. If you dont get a great education there are not going to be any jobs, Scott said during the 2012 School Choice Rally in the Capitol Courtyard.

An NBC News/Marist poll released on Wednesday finds Romney with a small lead over Rick Santorum in the Michigan Republican presidential primary. While Santorum led in polls of the Great Lakes State last week, polls unveiled this week have found the race much closer and some have had Romney ahead.
