Three Executive Staff Promotions Announced at Sugar Cooperative

Three members of the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida executive staff received promotions, named last week by the Belle Glade cooperative's board of directors.
 
According to a company press release, James M. Shine, Jr. has been promoted to senior vice president of the Agricultural Division; Matthew L. Roberts, P.E., as assistant general manager in the Executive Office Department; and Michael Michuda, P.E.,  as engineering manager, also in the Executive Office Department.

League of Women Voters of Florida: These Are Our Nonpartisanship Rules

The League of Women Voters of Florida (LWVF) submitted a letter to Sunshine State News Tuesday clarifying the organization's nonpartisan policy after SSN published a column  quoting national LWV rules and claiming LWVF President Pamela Goodman had violated rules by donating to Patrick Murphy while he was running for Congress and she was the League's first vice president.

Post-Hurricane Recovery Best Practices Task Force Created

Citizens for Responsible Spending (CRS) Chairman Barney Bishop III today Tuesday the creation of the Post-Hurricane Recovery Best Practices Task Force. 

Tallahassee-based CRS, formed in the summer of 2015 to address city budget issues, will work to identify ways communities can provide the most effective response and recovery efforts following a hurricane. The goal of the task force is to create a model of best practices to ensure a smooth and rapid, coordinated response to the emergency, Bishop said in a press release.

Scott Offers Short-Term, Interest-Free Loans to Hurricane Damaged Businesses

Gov. Rick Scott activated Florida’s Small Business Emergency Bridge Loan Program through the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) on Tuesday. Scott said the state needs to support local small businesses impacted by the storm -- a storm emergency personnel categorize as causing more flooding and damage than North Florida has seen from a hurricane in a generation.

Tim Kaine's Hometown Newspaper Endorses Gary Johnson

The primary newspaper of record for the state of Virginia, The Richmond Times-Dispatch, has announced its endorsement of Libertarian Gary Johnson for president. Richmond is also the hometown of Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s running mate.

Spirit Twice-a-Day Flights to Cuba from South Florida Take Off Dec. 1

Subject to Cuban government approval, low-cost Spirit Airlins will begin Dec. 1 to offer twice-daily service to Havana’s José Martí International Airport in Havana (HAV) from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).
