Could Mark Foley be making a comeback? The Palm Beach Post is reporting the former Republican congressman is considering running for mayor of West Palm Beach, especially as a number of big names have opted out of running to replace term-limited Mayor Lois Frankel. First elected to the U.S. House in 1994, Foley is best known for resigning his seat in 2006 after it was revealed he was sending sexual instant messages to a congressional page.

Keep your eyes on the National League of Cities 2010 Congress of Cities & Exposition which will be in Denver from Wednesday until Saturday. Two political stars from Florida -- both of whom are the subjects of whispers about possible presidential campaigns in either 2012 or 2016 -- will be speaking. Former Gov. Jeb Bush and former U.S. Rep. Joe Scarborough, now the host of a morning talk show on MSNBC, will be on center stage.

Politico.com has a fascinating piece titled, "Democratic South Finally Fails," which reports on historic GOP gains in the region during and after the 2010 elections. The Obama administration's liberal policy agenda-- especially Obamacare-- has made it almost impossible for white Democrats at the local level to be seen as moderates or centrists, says Emory University political science professor Merle Black. Just being a Democrat immediately puts many of the white Democratic politics on the defensive.

Let the name dropping begin. As the University of Miami searches for a new head football coach, prospects are popping up from coast to coast. While Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt would not divulge any names on his list Sunday, one deserves serious consideration: Randy Edsall. The University of Connecticut coach will lead the Huskies to the Big East championship this year if they beat the University of South Florida on Saturday (something Randy Shannon could not do). Edsall also wins bowl games (which Shannon did not).

Add "gate rape" to the bill of indictment that tea party activists are pressing against the Obama administration. Florida TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Chairman Peg Dunmire says the TSA's newest security measures violate the Fourth Amendment and will stoke anti-government sentiment heading into the 2012 election. "This is not making us any safer, it is an illusion," Dunmire said of the full-body scans and enhanced pat-downs that rolled out this month at U.S. airports.

With championship expectations and mediocre results, the University of Miami unceremoniously fired Head Football Coach Randy Shannon Saturday night, hours after the Hurricanes finished a 7-5 regular season. In a press release, Kirby Hocutt, 'Canes athletic director, said, "We have made a decision to seek new leadership for our football program. Our expectations are to compete for championships and return to the top of the college football world." This was a costly decision for the university. Earlier this year Shannon received a four-year contract extension.

Before the midterm elections, Democrats crowed that Hispanic voters would flock to the polls to deliver a blistering anti-Arizona-immigration-law thus anti-GOP statement, sending Republican candidates to defeat across the nation. But, guess what? Democrats were off the mark. On Nov. 2, in record numbers, Hispanic voters helped elect Republicans.

Florida State finally broke through against the University of Florida, and will celebrate its big win with a trip to the ACC championship game against Virginia Tech next Saturday. While the Noles dominated the Gators, 31-7, in Tallahassee, Maryland was beating North Carolina State to give FSU a pass to the championship game in Charlotte next week. One wag summed things up this way: Now UF fans can go back to talking about academics.

In Politico's "Open Mike, Thanksgiving Weekend Edition," Democratic media consultant Peter Fenn takes after Congressman-elect Allen West of Florida with something of a passive-aggressive flourish. What, you ask, has the controversial Broward County Republican and tea-party darling done now?

It was one thing to agree to an exhumation and removal of Native American remains -- mostly bits of teeth and bones. They were supposed to be relocated respectfully, in all dignity, in a site safely away from the Everglades restoration works, south of Lake Okeechobee. That was according to an agreement made in 2008 between the government and the Miccousukee and Seminole tribes.

As Harry Reid and the Democrats dream of passing a soft amnesty program during the lame duck session, U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney says to count him out -- with one exception. The Tequesta Republican issued the following statement on the DREAM Act, which would allow illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to gain legal resident status if they enroll in college or join the military: Immigration is fundamentally a national security issue, which is why any immigration reform must secure our borders, uphold the law, and reward those who follow the rules.

Tom DeLay still claims he's a victim, not a criminal. Nevertheless, after nearly six years of wrangling with Texas political and legal systems, the former House majority leader was found guilty on Thanksgiving Eve of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering during the 2002 legislative campaigns in the Lone Star State. Outside the courtroom later, speaking to reporters, he said, "This is an abuse of power ... The criminalization of politics undermines our system."

How bad are things getting for the Miami Heat? They now have President Barack Obama opining on their mediocre opening to the season. In an interview with Barbara Walters from ABC, Obama insisted the Heat just need time to work the kinks out as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh learn to adjust to play alongside one another.
