Judge Kevin Emas of Miami is the new judge for the 3rd District Court of Appeals.

In appointing Emas Wednesday, Gov. Charlie Crist said, Judge Emas 14 years of experience at the trial court level will be of tremendous benefit to the appellate court and all who present cases before him. He has established a solid record of integrity, careful analysis and commitment to judicial leadership.

Emas, 52, has served on the 11th Judicial Circuit Court since 2001 and on the Miami-Dade County Court from 1996 to 2001. Previously, he practiced with Thornton, Rotham and Emas from 1989 to 1996 and with Fine, Jacobson, Schwartz, Nash, Block and England from 1983 to 1989. He was an attorney in the Office of the Public Defender for the 11th Circuit from 1982 to 1983. Emas has a bachelors degree from the University of Florida and a law degree from the University of Miami.

He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Gerald B. Cope.
