Count Mitch Daniels out. According to a page-topping story in Politico Sunday, the Indiana governor wrote to supporters in an e-mail just after midnight that he will not run for president in 2012. He said he made the decision based on lack of support from his family. Politico said the e-mail, which went out with the word "urgent" in the subject line, said this:

Jon Huntsman fired a verbal volley at GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney at a gun shop in New Hampshire Saturday when he talked about shooting "large varmints." The rhetorical shot was a clear reference to Romney's comment four years ago about hunting "small varmints." In other words: Man up, Mitt. Though Huntsman has not formally entered the Republican presidential sweepstakes, his retail politicking in New Hampshire makes that move look imminent.

Assuming they're still around after 6 p.m. Saturday, Florida lawmakers will want to take note of what's happening out in Utah. There, lawmakers passed a bill which says any person who provocatively exposes or touches their body intends to exchange sex for money -- and that's a crime. Apparently unsatisfied with statutes that already prohibit indecent exposure and lewd and lascivious behavior, Utah is bootstrapping prostitution charges.

Declaring "Republican Hurricane Season," the Wall Street Journal on Saturday blasted Florida's GOP lawmakers for failing to substantively reform the state's casualty insurance system. Extending its umbrage to Rick Scott, the bible of business said the governor "risked hyperbole" when his office claimed that new insurance legislation was "a significant step toward making Florida more competitive and attracting new companies into the state."

A Miami judge on Friday rejected a candidate's bid to reinstate Sunday's early voting in the Miami-Dade special election. The county government had canceled the Sunday voting hours earlier in the week, ostensibly because of state legislation curtailing early voting periods. But, noting that Gov. Rick Scott had not signed the bill at the time of the cancellation, mayoral candidate Marcelo Llorente sued the county. Circuit Court Judge Barbara Areces, after a day of deliberation, threw out Llorente's complaint Friday afternoon.

State investigators cleared the air for Carol Wehle this week, finding no evidence that she used her executive director position at South Florida Water Management District to help her boyfriend get a $120,000-a-year job there. In a 33-page report dated May 16, investigators with the Department of Environmental Protection also found for John Williams, the district's inspector general. They said there is no evidence he acted improperly when he hired Bob Howard, Wehle's boyfriend, as engineering auditor. Howard did not use his relationship to win the job, the report said.

The timing of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi's visit to Israel is, no doubt, a coincidence. But it is a convenient one. A day after President Barack Obama angered Jewish voters with a call for a Palestinian state in the larger pre-1967 borders, Bondi joined other AGs for a trip to Israel. A statement released by Bondi's office Friday morning said:

Touting what they see as twin victories, Democratic activists hailed this week's election of Alvin Brown in Jacksonville's mayoral race and the supposed decline in Gov. Rick Scott's political fortunes. But consider these points:

Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan attacked President Barack Obamas call to return Israel to its 1967 borders. "The borders of any Palestinian state should be determined through negotiations with Israel at the table, not announced in a presidential edict that gives away Israeli land as Palestinians continue to call for the destruction of Israel," Buchanan said on Friday. "In these days of danger and change, we must reaffirm the unbreakable bond we have forged with our most trusted ally in the Middle East.

The jobless rate in the Sunshine State continued to fall in April, coming in at 10.8 percent, down 0.3 percent from March. The numbers, released Friday by the Agency for Workforce Innovation, reveal Florida's lowest unemployment rate since September 2009. There are also 996,000 unemployed workers in the state, the first time that number has dipped below 1 million since October 2009. The news is bound to please Gov. Rick Scott, who has seen the unemployment rate drop 1.1 percent since taking office in January.

Citing budget cuts -- not necessarily a reduced threat -- the U.S. Department of Homeland Security removed Jacksonville from the list of cities receiving counterterrorism funds this year. Jacksonville was one of 33 cities cut from the list, leaving 31 metropolitan areas on the list. Florida's remaining recipients are Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando. In 2011, Congress cut DHS state and local preparedness grants by $780 million compared to the FY 2010 enacted level, nearly a quarter of DHS grant funding," said DHS spokesman Chris Ortman.

While President Obama is making nice with the Arab Street, his Chinese pals have the United States in the crosshairs. According to the U.K.'s Daily Mail, the Chinese army has developed a computer game that sees their troops shooting at "enemy" U.S. forces. Glorious Revolution, which is used as a training tool for People's Liberation Army soldiers, pits the Chinese army against the U.S. military in a "Call of Duty"-style first-person shooter, the Mail related.

Get ready for an above-normal hurricane season in the Atlantic basin this year. That comes straight from the crystal ball at NOAAs Climate Prediction Center a division of the National Weather Service -- and for the last several years, it hasn't been far wrong when it's assessed the next hurricane season. Here's what NOAA predicts across the entire Atlantic Basin for the six-month season beginning June 1:

In separate statements Thursday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Senate hopeful Adam Hasner joined the Republican attack on President Barack Obama's speech on the Mideast. While applauding calls for peace and democracy, Rubio, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said, "We need to back up our words with actions and policies."
