Less than a week after Republican U.S. Sen. Craig Miller took a page from Bob Grahams old playbook and started a series of workday events, on Monday Gov. Rick Scott announced that he will also work alongside Floridians, visiting their job sites to help them out and learn about their concerns.

Former Gov. Charlie Crist continues to earn the enmity of the Republican Party, this time by giving $2,000 to a would-be opponent of U.S. Rep. Allen West. The Politico, via the Broward-Palm Beach New Times, reported that Crist gave two $1,000 contributions to Patrick Murphy, a Democrat seeking to unseat West, R-Plantation. Murphy, like Crist a lapsed Republican, will face Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel in the Democratic primary in CD 22.

U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Tallahassee, announced Monday afternoon he would oppose the debt-reduction deal proposed by congressional negotiators. Southerland, who previously voted against House Speaker John Boehner's proposal as well as an alternative plan from Democratic Sen. Harry Reid, stated in a release:

Former Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairwoman Nancy Argenziano announced on Monday that she intends to run for Congress in 2012. Argenziano, who served as a Republican in the Florida Legislature, left the PSC in October to support Democratic gubernatorial nominee Alex Sink against eventual winner Republican Rick Scott.

Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, sent a letter Monday to Gov. Rick Scott and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, calling on them to reject a proposed rate increase for state-run Citizens Property Insurance sinkhole coverage premiums. Citizens currently has a rate request before state regulators that would hike sinkhole premiums across the state 429 percent. In some areas, the increase would be over 2,000 percent.

A 2010 congressional candidate has filed federal papers to run in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate next year. You might call him the quintessenial "long shot." Deon Long, a Winter Park attorney, finished fifth in a five-way GOP primary in Central Florida's 24th Congressional District, garnering just 3 percent of the vote. The winner of that contest, Sandy Adams, went on to oust Democratic incumbent Suzanne Kosmas. An advocate of the FAIR Tax and a return to the gold standard, Long said the Senate race is "wide open."

Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Ananth Prasad announced on Monday that Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, who had been the executive director of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, was taking overas executive director of Floridas Turnpike Enterprise.

Bucking the party line, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., will vote against the debt deal. Rubio spokesman Alex Burgos did not elaborate on Rubio's decision, saying more information is coming. But Rubio's no-vote -- which will counter Sen. Bill Nelson's support for the debt-deficit package -- could signal growing trouble for Republican and Democratic leaders hoping for quick congressional approval today.

On Monday, Rep. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, R-Miami, endorsed the man he replaced as state House majority leader -- former Rep. Adam Hasner -- in the Republican primary to challenge U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.

The stock market responded tepidly to the debt deal reached by congressional leaders Sunday night. And Mitt Romney didn't think much of it either. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 120 points before noon Monday. The market took a beating last week, and observers hoped that an agreement to raise the nation's debt ceiling would turn the tables. But objections from tea party conservatives and hard-line liberals raised concerns that approval is not assured.

Looks like former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner was ready for the attacks from a Republican primary rival in the 2012 U.S. Senate race. Less than 20 minutes after former U.S. Sen. George LeMieuxs team attacked the former state legislator, Hasners team released an e-mail entitled Here Come the Attacks. The Hasner camp claimed to be garnering momentum with fundraising and endorsements.

On Monday, the team behind former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running in the Republican primary to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, came out firing at former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, their chief GOP rival. The LeMieux team took exception to Hasners claims that he is a conservative.

Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is currently the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, is hearing footsteps according to a new poll released on Monday, and they belong to Gov. Rick Perry of Texas.

Former Ruth's Chris CEO Craig Miller, who is now running in the Republican primary to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, unveiled the endorsement of Col. Joe Kittinger on Monday morning. Kittinger, a decorated veteran from his time in the U.S. Air Force who was held by North Vietnam after his plane went down, will head up Veterans for Miller. Miller also served in the Vietnam War.

President Barack Obama urged Congress Sunday night to quickly pass a debt and budget plan to avert a potential government default. But the deal that Obama and the Democrats called a "bipartisan compromise" is already encountering opposition from conservatives, who said the proposed cuts were too meager. George LeMieux, a Florida GOP candidate for U.S. Senate, said, This deal is no time for celebration; it offers no significant debt reduction for our children and grandchildren, and no fundamental reforms that will solve Washingtons spending addiction."
