Rasmussen Reports released a poll of likely Republican presidential primary voters in Florida on Wednesday. Despite allegations of sexual harassment, businessman Herman Cain continues to lead in the Sunshine State with 30 percent. Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts stands in second with 24 percent. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich comes in third place with 19 percent. None of the other candidates in the race break double digits. The poll of 788 likely Florida Republican primary voters was conducted on Tuesday and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

Reeling from "Grinch" charges, the Obama administration delayed a 15-cent Christmas tree tax before the ink had barely dried on the announcement. Announcing the levy in the Federal Register Tuesday, the administration planned to impose the tax on Christmas trees to pay for a new board to promote the Christmas tree industry. The Agriculture Department would levy the fee on "producers and importers" of fresh Christmas trees, provided they sell or import more than 500 trees a year.

U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar, Corrine Brown, D-Jacksonville, Ted Deutch, D-Boca Raton, Frederica Wilson, D-Miami, and Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, are among 39 House members to sign a bill seeking an investigation into new voting laws. The letter echoes the ongoingcall for a similar investigation from U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando.

An outspoken opponent of red-light cameras lost his bid for a St. Petersburg City Council seat on Tuesday. But the fight goes on. Brent Hatley, a self-profession libertarian, vowed to do everything I can to make sure red light cameras are not a permanent fixture" as he sought to unseat Bill Dudley. Dudley was among the council members who voted to award an $8.8 million red-light contract in the city.

Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies (Crossroads GPS), part of American Crossroads, a conservative political organization with ties to many prominent Republican leaders including legendary strategist Karl Rove, released an ad in Florida taking aim at President Barack Obama on Wednesday. The ad follows a tactic Crossroads employed last month, using a quote from Bill Clinton to bash Obama for raising taxes.

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now running in a crowded Republican primary field to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, unveiled the backing of former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Tom Slade on Wednesday. Chairman Slade has committed decades of his life to public service, helping countless Republicans get elected at the local, state, and national level, LeMieux said in a statement released on Wednesday. Tom serves the Republican Party with distinction and it is an honor to receive his endorsement.

Gov. Rick Scott hopes Cuba will be a free nation within seven years. Sitting down for an interview at News Radio 970-AM WFLA in Tampa on Wednesday morning, Scott said once the nation 90 miles south of Florida moves to a more democratized government and the U.S. embargo is lifted, the Port of Tampa and all of Florida should benefit.

An apparent 86-vote victory by a Republican candidate will tie up the Virginia Senate at 20-20, and give the GOP effective control via the Republican lieutenant governor as president pro-tem of the chamber. The slim margin triggers an automatic recount, and Democrats are hoping they can reverse the result and hold onto the majority. Before this donneybrook is over, it could look like Wisconsin all over again.

One of Herman Cain's accusers has a history of filing workplace complaints. The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Karen Kraushaar, 55, filed the complaint while working as a spokeswoman at the Immigration and Naturalization Service four years after she left the National Restaurant Association.
