AFP-FL is rallying behind Gov. Rick Scotts call for cutting $500 million in taxes and fees, backing public employee pension reform and fighting for more school choice options.

Gov. Rick Scott announced Friday thatTouchSuite, a leading technology company ranked 105 on Inc. 500s list of fastest growing private companies, will create 50 new jobs in Boca Raton. The new jobs will double the workforce at TouchSuite.According to an agreement approved by Boca Raton council members, the company is eligible for $250,000 from the states Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund Program, $50,000 of which the city of Boca Raton will pay, if it doubles its payroll to 100 jobs and keeps those jobs for five years.

Former U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Fla., best known for being the Democratic candidate in the U.S. Senate race in 2010, endorsed Florida House Democratic Leader Perry Thurston, D-Fort Lauderdale, for the Democratic nomination to challenge Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi in November. Thurston is battling former DCF Secretary George Sheldon in the Democratic primary.

Former state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic candidate in the special congressional election for an open congressional seat representing parts of Pinellas County, has made political hay out of Republican rival David Jollys lobbying background. But the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) hit back on Friday, noting that Sink has pulled in more than $10,800 from lobbyists for her campaign.

U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., was the point man in Congress this week as Republicans demanded U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Internal Revenue Service for targeting conservatives and tea party groups. More than 50 members of Congress signed a letter Posey sent to Holder on Wednesday demanding action. Poseys proposal has the support of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Florida TaxWatch released a report on Friday which shows the nine university research parks in the Sunshine State, more than any other state, create jobs, help startups and grow the economy. "Florida's university research parks help create jobs, and our state should continue to invest in and develop their resources to grow and diversify the state economy," said Dominic Calabro, the president and CEO of Florida TaxWatch.

Congressional hopeful and state Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Fort Myers, received the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on Friday. Javier Manjarres of the Shark Tank reported Friday morning that the Utah congressman appeared on the "Day Break with Drew Steele" radio show to announce his support for Benacquisto, who is currently seeking the Republican nomination in the race to replace former congressman Trey Radel.

U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho showcased his support of the Achieving Less Excess in Regulation and Requiring Transparency (ALERRT) Act on Thursday after it passed the Republican-controlled House. The measure looks to scale back federal regulations. Yoho weighed in on how federal regulations are hurting his North Florida district.

The leadership of the Florida House unveiled a bill offering a path to reinstatement for Floridians burdened by massive fines due to suspended and revoked driver licenses after a study from the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) found around 1.3 million drivers were suspended or had revoked licenses in the past year with around 167,000 of those for reasons that did not involve driving.

Dr. Ben Carson continued his efforts against President Barack Obamas federal health-care law on Thursday as he rallied conservatives against it. Currently chairing the Save Our Healthcare Project from American Legacy PAC, Carson has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Carson burst onto the political scene last year when he denounced the law at the National Prayer Breakfast. He weighed in on that experience and attacked the law in an email to conservatives on Thursday.

While he backed Rep. Kathleen Peters, R-St. Petersburg, in the primary, Florida Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, endorsed David Jolly, the Republican running in the special election to replace the late U.S. Rep. Bill Young, R-Fla., in Congress. Jolly takes on former state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee, and Libertarian Lucas Overby in the special election on March 11. Latvala went after Sink on Thursday, hitting the Democrat for supporting President Barack Obama.

Over half of Floridians say they support offering undocumented students in-state tuition, according to a new poll released Thursday. The poll, conducted by the Bob Graham Center for Public Service in collaboration with the University of Florida Bureau of Economic and Business research, found 62 percent of registered voters would support allowing children of undocumented immigrants the opportunity to receive in-state tuition. Thirty-three percent said they were against such a proposal.
