It was midnight in Tallahassee as students prepped for finals, poring over books at Florida State University’s Strozier Library. The library is usually open 24 hours, giving students a communal environment for studying. The night was like any other November evening before finals.

Is the 'Legislative Process' Really More Efficient Today?

Despite reflections recently about the “good old days” in Florida government, I'm not sure there ever was any such thing.

The most that can be said is that things change. But have legislative changes improved life for most Floridians?

How would you even measure that? It is all subjective.

It is different today but, contrary to what liberals think, different is not always better. Liberals tend to measure by quantitative analysis anyway: how many bills passed and how much money was spent.

Medical Marijuana to Get Supreme Court Review

The petition to legalize medical marijuana in Florida reached a major milestone Monday, receiving enough validated petitions to trigger a Florida Supreme Court review of the petition to allow medical pot in the Sunshine State.

Going to FSU Football Games This Season? Better Read This

Florida State University announced Monday a number of changes in the traffic patterns fans are accustomed to on football game days, as well as additions to the list of items fans won't be allowed to bring into the stadium.

“We are all excited about the first football game of the season, and we want fans to have a safe, enjoyable day,” David L. Perry, the university’s assistant vice president for safety and chief of police, said in a written statement. “That’s why it is extremely important that they pay attention to the changes this year.”

Kanye West for President?

As Floridians know all too well, pretty much anything can happen in politics these days. Businessman Donald Trump is a prime example -- ten years ago, it was probably unimaginable the Don would be leading in Republican primary polls. So, expect the unexpected is pretty much the norm in politics, but even rapper Kanye West's declaration he would run for president caught many by surprise.

Rick Scott to Head to Kentucky to Lure Jobs to Florida

Gov. Rick Scott announced on Monday that he will head to Kentucky next month, trying to lure jobs from the Bluegrass State to Florida. Scott pointed to Florida’s right-to-work laws as a reason why the Sunshine State was a better bet for businesses.

History Says Trump Unlikely to Win the Nomination

The fact that Donald Trump is currently leading in national polls in the Republican race for president is interesting -- but hardly a predictor of the outcome of the election. In fact, based on the recent history of presidential elections, it is not likely Trump will be the Republican nominee.
