Stand Your Ground Burden of Proof Bill Shoots Through Final Senate Committee

The Senate Rules Committee passed a bill to shift the burden of proof in Stand Your Ground cases on Thursday, the bill's final stop before it heads to the Senate for debate.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board today approved a $2.5 million contract to restore two historic dams on the Northwest Fork of the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter, Florida's first wild and scenic river.

House Moves Forward in Economic Development Feud

A House proposal that would kill Gov. Rick Scott's prized economic-development and tourism agencies began moving forward Wednesday over Scott's growing public objections.

The House Careers & Competition Subcommittee voted 10-5 to back a 172-page proposal (PCB CCS 17-01) that would eliminate the public-private Enterprise Florida and tourism marketer Visit Florida, along with a lengthy list of tax-credit and grant programs designed to attract companies to relocate and build in the state.
