Sunshine State News reporter Allison Nielsen will participate in a media panel at the Florida Capitol Friday. The panel will be part of Leadership Florida’s “Connect Florida” Connect Day in Tallahassee.
Nielsen will join the Media and Politics panel alongside some of the brightest journalists in the Sunshine State: Steve Bousquet of the Tampa Bay Times, Matt Dixon of POLITICO Florida and Mary Ellen Klas of the Miami Herald.
Bousquet is a seasoned journalist, having written for the Tampa Bay Times since 2001. Before joining the Times, he worked for 17 years at the Miami Herald.

Dixon started at POLITICO Florida in 2014 after covering politics for the Florida Times-Union, where he served as bureau chief for four years. Dixon is known for his strong investigative work on the Florida political scene.

Klas serves as the Miami Herald’s bureau chief in Tallahassee, where she has served as the paper’s top reporter in the Capitol since 2004. Klas has more than 25 years of journalism experience in Florida.
Nielsen, known for her new media-style reporting and rapid-fire Twitter skills, will bring an edgy, modern take to the panel and provide insights on how journalists can hold themselves, politicians and each other accountable in a fast-paced news cycle.

The 45-minute session will cover a variety of hot button topics pressing the media in the modern news cycle. Expect to hear about national news coverage, the top issues during this year’s legislative session and other current events in Florida.

John Peck, vice president of public relations at Sachs Media Group, will moderate the panel.
Leadership Florida is a statewide organization focused on encouraging leadership and promoting the local community.
Senate President Joe Negron will also appear at the two-day conference.
