Governor, Go Ahead: Veto This Bad Education Bill in Good Conscience

UPDATED: Rick Scott will veto House Bill 7069. I feel it. He might even veto the Florida Education Finance Program, or FEFP, which is the majority of funding for K-12 public schools. The only thing he's waiting for is assurance leaders in the Legislature don't have the votes to override him.

Lawmakers Back Payments in Death, Injury Cases

Saying the Florida Department of Children and Families didn't do its job, state lawmakers last month approved paying $3.75 million in a 2011 child-abuse case that drew national headlines.

But the planned payment in the death of 10-year-old Nubia Barahona and injuries suffered by her twin brother, Victor, was part of a broader effort this year by lawmakers to compensate people for injuries or deaths caused by actions --- or negligence --- of government agencies.

The reported success of the Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare) is based on enrollment numbers. Millions more have “coverage.” Similarly, the predicted disasters from repeal have to do with loss of coverage. Tens of thousands of deaths will allegedly follow. Activists urge shipping repeal victims’ ashes to Congress—possibly illegal and certainly disrespectful of the loved one’s remains, which will end up in a trash dump.
