Problems in casting votes for candidates is as much a part of the Florida landscape as palm trees. Voting issues, ballot complaints, and electoral lawsuits are so much the norm that when an election actually goes off without a hitch, it gets a banner headline. In keeping with that tradition, the Democratic Party has just begun a new lawsuit to seek a change in the voting process.

Marco Rubio Joins Jacky Rosen in Push to Expand Funds for Holocaust Education

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is behind a proposal from U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., to create a federal fund to teach students about the Holocaust. 

Rubio, U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-ND, and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Ct., announced their support of Rosen’s “Never Again Education Act." Rosen’s bill would have the U.S. Education Department create the Holocaust Education Assistance Program Fund, expanding middle and high school education on the Holocaust. 

Al Lawson, Val Demings Champion HUD Inspection Act

Two Democrats in the Florida delegation are championing a proposal to have the U.S. Housing and Urban Department (HUD) crack down on federally assisted housing properties that do not comply with federal laws. 

At the end of last week, U.S. Rep. Al Lawson, D-Fla., U.S. Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Alma Adams, D-NC, brought out the “HUD Inspection Act.” 

Lawson introduced the bill on Friday and weighed in on why he had introduced it.

Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signing of a bill greenlighting e-scooters in bicycle lanes is a little-known triumph to come out of the 2019 legislative session. It will mitigate certain safety concerns and issues with pedestrians -- particularly the elderly, disabled, and toddlers who populate Florida’s urban sidewalks.

But there is more to be done to shore up scooter safety.

Ted Deutch Pushes for More School Security Funding

A South Florida congressman is pushing a bill expanding federal grants to help school security. 

U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., whose district includes Parkland where the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting took place last year, and U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Tex., championed the “School Violence Prevention and Mitigation Act” this week. Williams is the main sponsor of the proposal.

As a Republican, I should just sit back smugly and watch. If the Democrats want to keep moving hard left on immigration, I should just keep my mouth shut and let them get on with it.

But if you know me at all, you know I don't keep my mouth shut. So here it is:

Immigration -- that one issue on its own -- will give the White House to Donald Trump  in 2020.
