Democratic AG Race Remains Close and Civil

While the primary battle for the Democratic nomination for attorney general has been a close contest, unlike the spat fornomination for the U.S. Senate seat it has generally been a civil affair between Sen. Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, and Sen. Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres.

It looked for a moment as if things were about to change. BP hired Akerman Senterfitt to handle the legal mess resulting from claims due to the spill in the Gulf. Aronberg demanded Gelber resign from Akerman Senterfitt -- which he did last week.

Enviros Gather at the Capitol to Push for Renewable Energy

On the floor of the chamber that has stymied efforts to make Florida power companies drastically increase their use of renewable and clean energy, 120 advocates gathered Monday to make the case again.

The Florida Business Network for a Clean Energy Economy hosted a Clean Energy Congress Monday, with clean energy lobbyist Susan Glickman presiding. The scene was a far cry from 2009, when a bill that would have required power companies to produce 20 percent of their electricity from renewable sources cleared the Senate, but was never brought up on the House floor.

David Rivera Signs "No Climate Tax" Pledge

Republican congressional candidate state Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, signed the No Climate Tax pledge being sponsored by Americans for Prosperity. In the pledge, politicians promise not to raise or create new taxes to fight climate change.

Florida Republicans Praise Supreme Court Ruling Striking Down Local Gun-Control Laws

On Monday, Florida Republicans cheered a decision from the Supreme Court of the United States to strike down local gun-control laws and reminded voters about the importance of Second Amendment issues in Novembers battle for the U.S. Senate seat.

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, running in a close contest with independent Gov. Charlie Crist for the Senate seat, praised the 5-4 ruling in MacDonald vs. City of Chicago.

Feuding Tea Parties Blow Up Florida's Political Landscape

While the Tea Party movement is energizing Republican candidates around the nation, Florida is proving to be a different story.

An intramural squabble between the Florida TEA Party and GOP-backed Tea organizations is splitting conservatives, confounding voters and, potentially, working to Democrats' advantage. The bickering has resulted in lawsuits, calls for resignations and charges of "black ops" on the campaign trail.

Praising Supreme Court Decision on Guns, Marco Rubio Asks Senate for Careful Examination of Elena Kagan

Guns Up for McCollum: He, too, Applauds Court's Second Amendment Ruling

An hour or so after Rick Scott hailed today's U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Second Amendment rights, Attorney General Bill McCollum weighed in, and took credit for siding with the majority decision.

"The MacDonald vs. City of Chicago ruling, which sides with the amicus brief I filed with 37 states some months ago, guarantees that the Second Amendment is treated as a fundamental right for Americans just as other rights enumerated by the U.S. Constitution," McCollum said in a statement.

Rick Scott Beats Bill McCollum With Guns and Immigration

Rick Scott turned up the heat on Bill McCollum this afternoon, blasting his GOP gubernatorial rival for appearing soft on guns and immigration.

Scott quickly applauded today's U.S. Supreme Court decision in a Second Amendment case, saying, "I join with the my fellow conservatives in Florida and across the country in applauding the Supreme Court ruling that blocks the government from infringing on the rights of citizens to own handguns.Today is truly historic for those of us who cherish our constitutional right to own guns.
