Susan Wiles Part of Jon Huntsman's Team

The Washington Post is reporting that longtime First Coast political operative Susan Wiles, best known for her work with Jeb Bush and more recently with Rick Scotts campaign last year, has joined up with a potential Republican presidential candidate -- Jon Huntsman, the former governor of Utah who is now serving as ambassador to China. Wiles joins an impressive team which includes a number of former staffers to John McCain.

Bill Posey Says Ending Taxpayer-Financed Presidential Campaigns Saves $1.4 Billion

Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Bill Posey weighed in on Thursday after the U.S. House, now under Republican control, voted on Wednesday to end public funding of presidential campaigns and party conventions.

The president said he was willing to eliminate whatever we can honestly afford to do without, said Posey, referring to the State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Rick Scott said he will bring the public-private partnership and two other state agencies into a newly created department of commerce -- and house the department right next door to his office where he can give it the attention it deserves.

House Committee Begins Examining Public Employees' Pension Plans

The House State Affairs Committee met on Thursday morning as they started examining one of the pressing issues that will dominate the 2011 session -- public employees pension plans. The committee, which is chaired by Rep. Seth McKeel, R-Lakeland, gathered information on Thursday for the session which opens in March.
