Bill Posey Says Ending Taxpayer-Financed Presidential Campaigns Saves $1.4 Billion

Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Bill Posey weighed in on Thursday after the U.S. House, now under Republican control, voted on Wednesday to end public funding of presidential campaigns and party conventions.

The president said he was willing to eliminate whatever we can honestly afford to do without, said Posey, referring to the State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Public funding of presidential campaigns and political conventions is certainly something we can live without. In fact, President Obama accepted no federal money when he ran, so enacting this cut should be a no-brainer.

Posey estimated that the measure would save more than $1.4 billion in the next 10 years.
