Scott: 'This Is the Best Time to Be Governor'

Reading the headlines, Floridians might well conclude that Rick Scott is a governor under siege. After 100 days in office, hardly a day goes by when the state's chief executive isn't accused of victimizing the poor, bashing government employees or taking an ax to public services.

Booed at baseball games and other public events, Scott is used to seeing signs like the one at a recent rally in St. Lucie County: "Rick Scott -- Murderer of the Disabled."

Space Shuttle Atlantis to Retire in Florida after its Final Voyage in June

Space shuttle Atlantis will have its permanent retirement home at Florida's Kennedy Space Center, NASA announced Tuesday.

Florida was among several states vying to house retired orbiters as the shuttle program winds down, and U.S. Rep. Bill Posey hailed NASA Administrator Charles Bolden's decision to choose the Sunshine State.

Gov. Scott Gathers Business Support for His Pension Reform Plan

Gov. Rick Scott touted the support of Florida business groups and fiscally conservative groups and think tanks Tuesday for his plan to reform the state's pension plans. He announced the formation of Floridians for Sustainable Pensions, a group made up of the Associated Industries of Florida, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, Florida TaxWatch, the National Federation for Independent Businesses, the James Madison Institute and other groups in favor of more strident pension reforms.

Haridopolos and Cannon Talk Budget, Gov. Rick Scott, Tax Cuts

Floridas top legislative leaders are convinced they can work out the differences between the state House and Senate budgets, but a tax cut proposal pushed by Gov. Rick Scott is likely to hit the cutting room floor.

House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, said Monday that Scotts plan to phase out Floridas corporate income tax -- which currently stands at 5.5 percent -- is not high on the wish list of the states top companies.
