Rick Perry Jumps Ahead of Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann to Lead GOP Field

While he has only been in the Republican presidential race for less than two weeks, a new poll finds Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is now the front-runner for the GOPs nomination.

The national poll of Republicans from Public Policy Polling (PPP), which has ties to many prominent Democrats, found Perry leading the pack with 33 percent of the vote. Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts placed second with 20 percent, followed by U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who led a PPP national poll last month before Perry entered the race.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who won the Iowa Republican straw poll earlier in the month, took off the gloves on Wednesday and tore into President Barack Obama and U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., increasingly touted as vice presidential timber, calls the GOP presidential contenders "an underrated field."

Speaking on Fox News' "Hannity" Tuesday night, the freshman senator said, "I am confident that when the primaries are over, we're going to have a nominee on the Republican side that is going to lead our country in the right direction.And the truth be told, I think any of them would be better than who we have there right now.

Rubio also spoke on subjects ranging from Libya to the tea party to Maxine Waters.

Craig Miller to Hold Workday in Carey Baker's Gun Shop

Craig Miller, the former CEO of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse who is running in the Republican primary to see who will take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, is holding the second of his Miller on Main Street events next week in Mount Dora. On Monday, Miller will be working at the A.W. Peterson Gun Shop which is owned by former state Sen. Carey Baker.

Newt Gingrich Slams 'Supercommittee' Tasked With Cutting Federal Government Spending

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia, still a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination despite his campaigns struggles this summer, took aim at the 'supercommittee set up by Congress as part of the deal to raise the federal debt ceiling. The committee is tasked with cutting $1.2 trillion from the federal government over the next 10 years.

DEP Announces Plans to Save Taxpayers $700 Million from Water Management Districts

On Wednesday, state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Herschel Vinyard said that a new agreement between his agency and the five water management districts could lead to Florida taxpayers saving more than $700 million and he intends to cut their slice of budget by that much next year. These savings come from reducing staff levels, debt management and cutting nonessential costs.
