Nearly 400 Gubernatorial Appointments Go Unconfirmed by Senate 'Jammed' for Time

In the frantic final hours of the 2012 regular session, as bills were debated regarding auto insurance, Citizens Property Insurance, the parent trigger for charter schools and the budget, senators found time to slip in the confirmation of eight appointments by Gov. Rick Scott -- and failed to confirm almost 400 others.

The harried pace came following days where hours of floor time was dominated by going-away speeches by departing senators and a portrait-unveiling for the Senate president.

Brace Yourself for Obamacare's Abortion Surcharge on Health Policies

Here it comes: a $1 tax on every health-insurance policy to fund abortions.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has ordered that all enrollees in the health-care exchanges will pay a separate monthly surcharge for abortion coverage.

In all likelihood a lot of people are going to be purchasing a plan and if they are not paying attention when they purchase, they are going to be paying a dollar a month surcharge for a service they are never going to use or want to use, a House staffer told the Daily Caller.

Floridas political history has been shaped by many different people -- the French, English, Spanish, Cuban, African-American, Puerto Rican, Yankees, Southerners and more. While Florida politics are not as Celtic-influenced as, say, those of Boston or New York, there have been a few leaders with Irish roots reigning over the Sunshine State.

One Florida politician in particular -- no, not former U.S. Rep. Andy Ireland -- deserves our attention on St. Patricks Day.

Bill Nelson Trails Connie Mack and in Close Fights with George LeMieux and Mike McCalister in New Poll

A poll from Rasmussen Reports unveiled on Wednesday finds Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in jeopardy as he seeks a third term in November.

The poll of likely voters finds Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack with a solid lead over Nelson despite the incumbents four decades on the Florida political stage. Mack takes 43 percent, while Nelson trails with 36 percent, 16 percent remain undecided and 5 percent more back other candidates. A Rasmussen poll released last month found the race between the two a tie, with both candidates taking 41 percent each.

George LeMieux Hits Connie Mack in New Radio Ad

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November, has launched a new radio ad bashing his chief GOP rival -- U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, whose father held the seat for 12 years before Nelson.

Democrat Heather Beaven Enters 6th Congressional Race

Heather Beaven, CEO of the Florida Endowment Foundation for Floridas Graduates, announced Wednesday she will run for Congress in Floridas new 6th Congressional District.

Beaven, a former Navy cryptologist from Palm Coast, will seek the Democratic nomination in the GOP-leaning district that runs northeast from Orlando. Four Republicans have already filed for the seat.

Tom Ridge Backs Mitt Romney for President

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney continued to look to poach Pennsylvania from GOP rival Rick Santorum, who represented the Keystone State for two terms in the U.S. Senate, on Wednesday when he unveiled the support of Tom Ridge.

Besides serving as governor of Pennsylvania, Ridge served as the first secretary of Homeland Security under George W. Bush. Ridge had backed former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah earlier in the election cycle.

Rick Santorum Beats Mitt Romney in Pennsylvania Poll

With an increased focus on Pennsylvania in the Republican presidential race, Quinnipiac University released a poll looking at the Keystone State that found favorite son Rick Santorum leading there. Santorum takes 36 percent followed by Mitt Romney with 22 percent, Ron Paul with 12 percent and Newt Gingrich lagging in single digits with 8 percent. In a one-on-one match-up, Santorum leads Romney, taking 52 percent with the former Massachusetts governor trailing with 32 percent.
