Labor Day Travel Expected to Increase 2.6 Percent

The increase in gas prices doesnt appear to be deterring Floridians from making travel plans for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

AAA Travel projects that 1.6 million Floridians will be taking to the roads, air, and even the sea for trips of more than 50 miles during the early September weekend, an increase of 2.6 percent from a year ago.

August 20, 2012 - 6:00pm

Forget any talk of Florida Gov. Rick Scott torpedoing his message of progress being made in Floridas economy for the sake of any ongoing national campaign seeking to paint a bleaker picture.

Instead, Scott said Tuesday that Floridas resurgence should be seen as a national model, one that a more receptive White House occupant could emulate in the not-too-distant future.

When he addresses the Republican National Convention on Monday, Scott will use the prime-time appearance to talk about the need for a federal partner.

August 20, 2012 - 6:00pm

Motorists could eventually see the no-fault portion of their auto insurance drop 14 percent to 24.6 percent, according to a $150,000 commissioned report released Tuesday by the Office of Insurance Regulation.

But the state is quick to note that while personal injury protection premiums have skyrocketed by $1 billion, due in large part to fraud, the coverage accounts for only about 20 percent of most auto insurance bills.

And any savings will not be seen until after new policies are written following Jan. 1, 2013.
