Jobless Rate in Florida Continues to Improve

In more good economic news for the state of Florida this week, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity revealed Friday that the state's unemployment in February hit its lowest mark since October 2008, falling 0.2 percent from January to 7.7 percent.

The countdown has begun for Friday night's NCAA David-and-Goliath matchup between Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Florida. And probably few people are as psyched for the game as the Florida Capitol's honorary Eagles cheerleader, Rep. Matt Hudson, R-Naples.

Hudson's daughter graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University and Hudson himself admits he's a huge fan who loves watching the Eagles' aerial feats live.

Rick Scott: Florida's Private-Sector Job Creation Soars Since December 2010

Gov. Rick Scott announced in Orlando Friday that since December 2010, Florida has created 294,200 private-sector jobs.

Considering the February unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 7.7 percent, he said, Florida's unemployment is now the lowest it's been since October 2008.

Bill Would Ban Voluntarily Committed Mentally Ill Persons from Buying Guns

Florida is moving to prevent some mentally ill people from buying guns.

A House committee passed a bill Thursday that would ban gun purchases by anyone who has been committed to a mental institution.

Currently, theres a loophole in state law that allows mentally ill people to voluntarily commit themselves to a mental health treatment facility and then be able to buy a gun when they check out.

Gay and Godless on the Public-School Stage

Liberals who demand church-state separation would pitch a fit if a public school decided to perform a play that reverently told stories of the Old Testament, whether it was the story of creation, the story of Noah, or Moses or Joseph and his brothers.

But somehow, if a public school decides to put on a play mocking God and the Old Testament, that is not a church-state violation.
