Guns Save Lives
We all know that guns can cost lives because the media repeat this message endlessly, as if we could not figure it out for ourselves. But even someone who reads newspapers regularly and watches numerous television newscasts may never learn that guns also save lives --much less see any hard facts comparing how many lives are lost and how many are saved.
Inconvenient Headlines
It's a deeply felt conviction among liberals that they are the caring party. It's not too much to say that liberals are quite confident that they are nicer, more moral people than conservatives.
It must require truly titanic powers of denial for the "moral" and "compassionate" party to maintain its position on abortion -- a position that leads them into some macabre rationalizations. Consciences among the morally superior party are agreeably quiescent.
DEP's Numeric Nutrient Criteria Water Rules Pass House Committee
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection got another step closer Monday to being allowed to implement the states own science-based rules for numeric nutrient criteria (NNC) in Floridas waterways.
HB 7115 was voted favorably by the House Rulemaking Oversight and Repeal Subcommittee, which means Florida is on track to be the first state in the nation to implement statewide nutrient standards for its waterways.

2014 Could Mean Chillier Start to Legislative Session
The idea of starting the regular session of the Florida Legislature in chilly January got a warm reception on Monday, as a Senate committee voted to move the measure forward.
The Ethics and Elections committee heardSB 1356, sponsored by Sen. Anitere Flores, which takes advantage of a loophole provided in the states constitution regarding when the Florida Legislature must be in session. While the constitution says the regular session must start in March during odd-numbered years, it leaves room for lawmakers to set the opening day on even-numbered years.

Rick Scott Again Blasts Obama's Day-Late-Dollar-Short Support for Florida Ports
With Port of Miami Director Bill Johnson at his side, Florida Gov. Rick Scott addressed the Tallahassee press Monday, dismissing President Obama's visit as "late to the party" on coming up with Florida port investments.
Obama appeared in Miami late last week to build support for his plan to secure more infrastructure funding.
Were certainly glad President Obama visited the Port of Miami ... but he was late ..." Scott told reporters Monday. "We know 550,000 jobs in Florida are tied directly to our ports."
