Sick-Leave Bill Passes, but Not Without Backlash

Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill blocking local governments from enacting mandatory paid sick-time measures. Unions in both Miami-Dade and in Orange counties were seeking to require local governments to have private entities mandate sick-leave benefits for employees. Several large businesses argued the bill was necessary to avoid several local employment rules for companies.

Businesses hailed Gov. Scott's decision to pass the bill.

Eric Holder Must Go, 46 Congressmen Tell Obama

On Friday, 46 Republican members of Congress sent a letter to President Barack Obama demanding he dismiss Attorney General Eric Holder. Six members of the Florida delegation signed the letter: Ron DeSantis, John Mica, Rich Nugent, Bill Posey, Dennis Ross and Ted Yoho.

The letter mentions Holders role in the Fast and Furious scandal, recent revelations concerning the Justice Departments handling of the phone records of reporters from Fox News and the Associated Press, and the FBIs handling of the phone records of many ordinary Americans.

Dana Young and Jason Brodeur Set to Shine at GOPAC Event

Two Republicans serving in the Florida House will be featured when GOPAC meets with Emerging Leaders across the nation next week in New York. Rep. Dana Young, R-Tampa, will be one of the co-chairs for GOPACs Emerging Leaders summit and Rep. Jason Brodeur, R-Sanford, has been chosen by GOPAC as one of the 21 Emerging Leaders at the event.

Chris Christie in Great Shape for Second Term

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, who is mentioned as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2016, is in excellent shape as he looks for a second term in November.

Rasmussen Reports released a poll on Friday which shows Christie with a commanding lead over Democratic opponent state Sen. Barbara Buono. Christie takes 58 percent of those surveyed while Buono only commands the support of 28 percent, while 10 percent are undecided and 4 percent back other candidates.

Bill Posey Goes to Bat for Nonprofits Helping the Troops

On Friday, the U.S. House included legislation from U.S. Bill Posey, R-Fla., that will allow goods supplied by nonprofits to American servicemen deployed overseas to travel without charge on Defense Department transports as an amendment on the National Defense Authorization Act.
