WASHINGTON -- Under the Defense of Marriage Act, the federal government does not recognize same-sex marriages even in states that have legalized it. This week, the Supreme Court ruled DOMA unconstitutional.

Obama Attempts to Downplay Snowden's Significance

President Obama shrugged Edward Snowden and the National Security Agency leaks off his shoulders Thursday, calling Snowden a "29-year-old hacker" and suggested the pressure Obama and his administration have been placing on China and Russia to extradite the former national security contractor was not worth damaging relations with those countries.

Immigration Reform Passes Senate But Faces Fight in the House

With Vice President Joe Biden presiding over the chamber, the U.S. Senate passed the immigration reform bill backed by the Gang of Eight. Both of Floridas two senators -- Democrat Bill Nelson and Republican Marco Rubio -- supported the bill. The final vote was 68-32.

Allen West Launches 2016 Presidential Online Straw Poll

Former Congressman Allen West has opened the door in recent days to a political comeback in 2016. His Allen West Guardian PAC is having an online straw poll for Republican presidential hopefuls in 2016 but the Florida Republican did not include himself as one of the contenders.

Washington is broken and it's time we said enough is enough, West wrote supporters. The moment to restore our liberty and fight for the principles and values this country was founded on is right now.
