1st Piece of Rick Scott's Everglades Plan Cleared for Construction

Gov. Rick Scott's Everglades Restoration Strategies plan is set to get on its way.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection Wednesday granted a permit to the South Florida Water Management District for the construction of a 15 billion-gallon storage structure that is designed to ultimately deliver clean water to the Everglades.

'Stand Your Ground' Issue Heats up before Thursday Hearing

The long-awaited hearing on the controversial Stand Your Ground law will take place on Thursday, and so far Democrats aren't really sure what's going to change as a result of the hearing.

"We don't know what [Republicans] are going to do," House Minority LeaderPerry Thurston, D-Fort Lauderdale, said at a press conference Wednesday. "They are probably going to do not one damn thing."

Nancy Pelosi Clearing the Decks for Alex Sink, NRCC Claims

Moments after Jessica Ehrlich pulled out of the special election for the congressional seat opened by the death of former U.S. Rep. Bill Young, Republicans are saying Democrats at the national level are clearing the decks for former state CFO Alex Sink. Ehrlich had been the Democratic candidate who challenged Young in 2012.

Katie Prill, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Campaign Committee, said U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and her allies did not want a primary to hurt Sinks chances.

Jessica Ehrlich Pulls out of CD13 Race


Jessica Ehrlich, the St. Petersburg attorney who lost to Congressman C.W. Bill Young last year in an attempt to take his U.S. House of Representatives seat, announced Wednesday she is no longer running for Young's seat.
