New York State Can’t Be Allowed to Stifle NRA’s Political Speech

August 26, 2018 - 11:30am

It’s no secret that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is no fan of the National Rifle Association. A mailer his campaign sent to New York voters this week proclaims, in bold letters: “If the NRA goes bankrupt, I will remember them in my thoughts and prayers.”

When You Say 'All for Transportation' in Hillsborough, 'All' Means 5 out of 1.4 Million

August 24, 2018 - 9:00am

Five downtown Tampa special interests contributed $150,000 each to fund the “All for Transportation” (AFT) transit tax-hike petition effort, literally buying their way onto the November ballot in Hillsborough County.

The $750,000 was used to fast-track a proposed massive and unnecessary 30-year transit tax hike that would raise the sales tax to 8 percent -- highest in the state -- if the referendum passes.

The tax will reel in $15-$18 billion. Most of the funds will be earmarked for inside the City of Tampa with about 30 percent of the county’s population.

Main Casualty in the Alvarez-Valdes Florida House Contest: Janet Cruz

August 22, 2018 - 10:30am
Janet Cruz

Susan Valdes, the early favorite in the Democratic primary race for Florida House District 62, has run a gaffe-riddled campaign but she won’t be branded the biggest loser if opponent Michael Alvarez pulls an upset next Tuesday.

That honor will belong to outgoing state Rep. Janet Cruz, who represents at present the Tampa district. The term-limited Cruz is challenging incumbent Republican state Sen. Dana Young in District 18.

Florida Democrats Did an Awesome Election Favor for Republicans

August 20, 2018 - 6:00am

The anti-Second Amendment, Democratic politicians who demanded the Legislature vote on calling a special session to repeal Florida's Stand Your Ground self-defense law either unwittingly or intentionally provided a great service to Republican incumbent legislators.

Republican incumbents who previously had NRA ratings of A or A+ and voted in favor of Senate Bill 7026, the so-called "school safety" bill that contained gun control provisions, had their ratings dropped to a "C."

Anti-Gun Protests Focus on NRA when More Evidence Shows Local Problems

August 7, 2018 - 12:30am
Saturday's National March on the NRA in Fairfax, Va.

In the months following the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the citizens of Broward County have been subjected to ever-growing evidence community leaders have been culpable -- or at a minimum, neglectful in their duties. Now we learn of more problems, even as the focus of activists continues to be elsewhere.

Dana Young Is Going Full Throttle While Janet Cruz Uses the Cloak of Invisibility

August 3, 2018 - 9:45am

With the 2018 general election just three months away, incumbent state Sen. Dana Young has taken to the hustings, appearing at panel discussions, campaign events, and fundraisers.

Seniors’ Prescription Costs Must be Addressed

July 26, 2018 - 4:15pm

The drug supply chain can be a complicated process. There are many different layers that go with the process that ultimately ends with your prescriptions making their way into your medicine cabinet, especially when it comes to deciding the amount each entity within the process pays. While the structure of this supply chain remains seemingly intricate, there is one thing relatively easy to understand: Middlemen at the center of this process often do not share the savings they negotiate with consumers at the pharmacy counter.

Numbers Tell the Story: Students' Anti-Gun Movement Has Mostly Backfired

July 25, 2018 - 10:00am
March for Our Lives, Washington, March 24, 2018

In the wake of the February mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, we have been treated to a near-constant barrage of media coverage about the anti-gun movement. But has all that airtime been effective? Has it dissuaded Americans from gun ownership, resulted in changed laws and changed hearts and minds?
