Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik has violated Florida law every year since he purchased the team by not registering the out-of-state corporation that owns the team with the State of Florida. In doing so, Vinik has escaped paying annual fees and avoided meeting required disclosures.

Vinik is the chairman and sole individual controlling the corporation.

Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White filed a lawsuit Monday to kill the 1 percent sales tax increase passed for transit on Nov. 6, 10News has reported.

Just as citizens vote on a 1 percent sales tax to fund transit in Hillsborough County, the county’s transit authority reported that its bus ridership is down 10.3 percent for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.

Majority voter support for the proposed 14 percent hike in the Hillsborough County sales tax, already a dim possibility, has been dealt another blow from an unlikely source.
