After flopping in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Jeb Bush is ready to hit the campaign trail again. 

The former governor will take the stump for Congressman David Jolly who is running to defend his seat in Pinellas County. Jolly is expected to face former Governor Charlie Crist who succeeded Bush in the governor’s mansion before leaving the GOP to run with no party affiliation for the Senate in 2010 and then for governor in 2014 as the Democratic nominee.  

As he announced his support for Jolly, Bush held his fire.

Florida Republican Marco Rubio has joined up with other GOP senators, including once and possible future presidential rival Ted Cruz of Texas, to unveil a bill ensuring the Export-Import Bank can’t provide Iran assistance.

Marco Rubio continues to avoid associating with presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Earlier this week, the Tampa Bay Times reported that Rubio will not attend the Republican convention later this month in Cleveland.

On Wednesday, the U.S. House voted to extend sanctions on the Maduro regime in Venezuela for another three years with members of the Florida delegation leading the charge. 

Originally sponsored by Florida Republican Marco Rubio and New Jersey Democrat Bob Menendez in the Senate, the sanctions target “government officials and others in Venezuela who violate human rights, suppress political opposition, and commit violence against peaceful protestors.”

Over the Labor Day weekend, the traditional start of the presidential election homestretch, the Florida chapter of conservative group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) will host an event in Orlando with a potential vice presidential candidate speaking. 

Members of the Florida delegation are declaring victory after Germany agreed on Tuesday to provide more financial assistance to Holocaust survivors. Germany announced it would lift caps on assistance to Holocaust survivors for home care.

Earlier this year, a senator and two congressional representatives from Florida out a measure urging Germany to “fulfill its moral responsibility to Holocaust survivors and urgently provide the financial resources necessary to ensure that Survivors live in dignity and comfort in their remaining years.”

Marco Rubio visited the Treasure Coast Friday to view the Lake Okeechobee discharges through the St. Lucie Lock, St. Lucie River and the inlet/beaches, and to observe the algae bloom firsthand. After a waterway tour and ground tour, he outlined ways to solve the harmful and toxic algae issue plaguing the Treasure Coast.
