U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., the chairman of the U.S. House Asia and Pacific Subcommittee, scored a win on Tuesday night as the House passed his proposal reforming how the federal government manages international development finances.

Members of the Florida delegation on Capitol Hill continue to champion proposals to allow some Canadian citizens more time to vacation in the United States. 

Last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., managed to get their  “United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act”  proposal ensuring the U.S. and Israel remain close allies with $3.3 billion for that nation’s security through the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. 

In one of the most closely watched congressional primaries in Florida, two Democrats are trying to rally supporters by stressing their opposition to President Donald Trump nominating Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

From his perch as chairman of the U.S. House National Security Subcommittee, U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., called on President Donald Trump to have the U.S. Department of Justice examine Cuban communist Raúl Castro for his role in shooting down an airplane in 1996 which had three U.S. citizens and a permanent resident. 

Last week, members of the Florida delegation on Capitol Hill called for tougher sanctions against the Ortega regime in Nicaragua and were happy when the White House complied. 

This week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is once again focused on tax reform, showcasing his efforts to expand the Child Tax Credit and turning his attention to paid family leave.

With no Libertarian in the race, historian Darcy Richardson, the Reform Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Florida, is making a play for that minor party’s voters.

James Monroe, the Founding Father who had the most impact on Florida, died on July 4, 1831, the 55th anniversary of the country he spent decades service as a young officer in George Washington’s army until his two terms as our fifth president. A strange coincidence but one that was overshadowed by the deaths of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence they played a large role in creating.
