U.S. Rep. Neal Dunn, R-Fla., currently finishing his first term in Congress, scored a win last week as the U.S. House overwhelmingly passed his “Strengthening Coastal Communities Act.”

Americans for Prosperity’s (AFP) Florida chapter is feeling thankful for U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz’s, R-Fla., efforts to rein in federal spending and is letting Panhandle residents know of their gratitude. 

This week, the U.S. Senate passed the “Coast Guard Authorization Act” with the support of both of Florida’s two senators. 

From his perches on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and as chairman of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., called for the U.S. to crack down on China overs its handling of Muslim minorities in that nation. 

Despite Hurricane Michael hitting the state, the unemployment rate in October dropped to 3.4 percent, the lowest it has been since the start of 2007. 

Democrats will take control of the U.S. House in the new year but the question of who leads them remains up in the air--and members of the Florida delegation can play a major role on who wields the gavel. 

While a ceasefire has been called after Hamas launched hundreds of rockets into the southern part of Israel from Gaza, members of the Florida congressional delegation continue to champion that country’s right to defend itself against terrorism. 

With southern Israel under attack from rockets being shot from Palestinian controlled Gaza, the two South Florida congressional representatives who lead the U.S. House Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee expressed their support of that key American ally. 

Having won reelection last week, U.S. Francis Rooney, R-Fla., continued his efforts on labor issues, urging the U.S. Labor Department to reform how it views worker centers. 

With the Democrats making inroads in South Florida on their way to flipping the U.S. House, that region is going to have a major shift when it comes to its influence on Capitol Hill when the new Congress convenes.
