RPOF Not Holding Presidential Straw Poll for 2016 After Some Big Wins and One Tea Party Stunner

With the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) hosting the Sunshine State Summit conference in October as the GOP presidential hopefuls line up for 2016, a major feature of similar events from the past will be missing since there will not be a straw poll.

Two Florida congressmen are running neck and neck in the Democratic primary to replace U.S Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2016, a new poll shows. 

On Monday, Mason-Dixon released a poll which finds U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., ahead of U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., by a whisker in the primary: 33 percent to 32 percent. But a plurality of those surveyed -- 35 percent -- remain undecided. 

Florida Republicans Divided Over Senate Race, New Poll Shows

A new poll shows a wide open Republican primary to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2016. Rubio is running for the Republican presidential nomination and has said he will not seek a second term in the Senate. 

Mason-Dixon released a survey on Monday showing almost half of Florida Republicans -- 45 percent -- remain undecided on who they will back in the Senate primary. 

Carlos Curbelo Only Florida Rep Breaking From Party Lines Vote on Sanctuary City Funding

On Thursday, in a party lines vote, the U.S. House passed a measure cutting off federal funds from the U.S. Department of Justice to states and cities that refuse to enforce current immigration laws. 

The “Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act” from U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter Jr., R-Calif., passed the House on 241-179 votes. Six Democrats joined the Republican majority in supporting the measure while five Republicans voted against it. 

GOP Senate Hopefuls Stress Conservative Credentials in the Race to Replace Marco Rubio

The Republican primary to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in the Senate in 2016 is on with the leading candidates trying to claim the right-of-center ground. 

Having entered the race earlier in the week, U.S. Rep. David Jolly, R-Fla., tried to get his conservative credentials in order on Thursday with a new video. In the video, Jolly insisted he is a conservative. National conservative groups, many of which are backing U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., in the primary, have been firing away at Jolly on a host of fronts including his support of same-sex marriage. 

Hillary Clinton Still Ahead of the Democratic Field in Florida

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to hold a commanding lead in the Florida Democratic presidential primary, a new poll shows. 

Mason-Dixon unveiled a new poll on Friday which has Clinton, who leads all of the national polls, far out in front of her potential Democratic rivals. Clinton pulls a majority -- 58 percent --  of those surveyed. 

In a memo accompanying the poll, Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon insisted she was “still far ahead of the primary field.”

Jeb Bush Leads, Donald Trump Upside Down in Florida Primary Poll

A new poll shows businessman Donald Trump is running worse in Florida than at the national level after his comments about U.S. Sen. John McCain’s, R-Ariz., service in the Vietnam War while former Gov. Jeb Bush, R-Fla., is the favorite son of the Sunshine State.  

Mason-Dixon released a poll of the Republican presidential primary  in Florida on Friday showing Bush ahead with 28 percent. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., takes second with 16 percent. Gov. Scott Walker, R-Wis., places third with 13 percent followed by Trump with 11 percent. 

John Mica Urges Pentagon to Arm Military Personnel After Chattanooga Shootings

In the aftermath of a jihadist gunman targeting a recruiting station and a reserve center, killing four Marines and a Navy officer last week in Chattanooga, a Florida congressman is taking the lead to get the Obama administration to bolster security for armed forces members. 

At the end of last week, U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., led efforts in Congress to urge U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter to allow military personnel to arm themselves when at recruiting stations and other domestic posts. 

Florida Republicans Remain Opposed to Normalization with Cuba

The Cuban embassy reopened on Monday for the first time in more than 50 years in Washington, D.C., while the U.S. opened the doors to its embassy in Havana -- latest step in President Barack Obama’s efforts to normalize relations with the communist nation. Gov. Rick Scott said he continued to oppose those efforts and accused Obama of appeasing the Castro regime. 

Obama Signs Vern Buchanan's Bill to Replace DD-214 With Veterans ID Card Into Law

President Barack Obama on Monday signed U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan’s Veterans ID Card Act into law. Buchanan, R-Fla., introduced the bill earlier this year. Its purpose is to ensure all veterans receive ID cards from the VA instead of just those vets who served 20 years in the armed forces or are seeking medical treatment for service-related wounds.
