November 27, 2011 - 6:00pm

Ten years after it began operations, the Transportation Security Administration has devolved into "bureaucratic morass and mismanagement," according to a scathing new congressional report.

"Since its inception, TSA has lost its focus on transportation security. Instead it has grown into an enormous, inflexible and distracted bureaucracy, more concerned with human resource management and consolidating power," charged the report by two House committees.

Tardy 'A'-School Bonuses Could Be Smaller, Too

November 21, 2011 - 6:00pm

Fading hopes for Christmastime delivery of more than $100 million in "A" school bonus checks were dashed Tuesday as state officials acknowledged that a month-long appeal process will push disbursement into the new year.

Even more troubling, Florida Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson warned that there might not be enough money to fully fund the program.

Following Sunshine State News' story about the delay, Robinson confirmed that his department would hold off on distributing all school "recognition" cash awards until high school grades had been calculated.

In fact, she's particularly hard on Republican backsliders, aka RINOs.

Florida Nurse Practitioners Allege Exclusion From Medicaid Reform

November 17, 2011 - 6:00pm

A study forecasting multibillion-dollar savings by Florida's Medicaid reform program should be taken with a large grain of salt, say skeptical health-care providers.

The five-year-old pilot project is saving taxpayers up to $161 million annually, and could cut costs by $1.9 billion if it is extended statewide, according to the Foundation for Government Accountability.

Currently operating in five counties, the program will expand to the remaining 62 counties if the state receives approval from the Obama administration.

The battle over "destination resorts" in Florida is pitting two of the state's largest business organizations against each other, with one rejecting a casino company's $25,000 check and bid for membership.

An aggressively pro-gaming stance by the Associated Industries of Florida has renewed speculation about AIF's agenda and members.

Erika Alba, who chairs the AIF's board of directors, is public affairs director at Foley & Lardner, a law firm that lobbies for the Genting Group, a gaming company vying to build "the world's largest" hotel-casino in Miami.

November 15, 2011 - 6:00pm

Now that Occupy Wall Street protesters have been rousted from New York City's Zuccotti Park, they could turn up the heat on Capitol Hill, where some of the other "1 percent" work.
