Don’t Expect Florida to Embrace a Court-Backed Obamacare Very Quickly

With the U.S. Supreme Court on the verge of issuing a monumental decision on Americas health-care future, Gov. Rick Scott has expressed optimism that the justices will side with Florida in opposing the law, its mandates and provisions.

But Scott did add that in the offchance justices uphold the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, Florida would "get around" to implementing the law.

Rick Scott: EA Sports/UCF Deal Keeps Florida Talent at Home

EA Sports, the creator of sports video games including Madden NFL and Tiger Woods PGA, is partnering with the University of Central Florida to provide student internship opportunities that could build up the Orlando digital industry and lead to employment with the gaming giant.

Under the deal announced Friday, UCF students in the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy will be able to work in the new EA SPORTS Innovation Lab that will be part of the UCF Center for Emerging Media in Downtown Orlando.

Americans For Prosperity Seeks Candidates' Backing for Pension, Tax Credit Elimination Plans

The conservative group Americans For Prosperity-Florida wants to replace the state employee pension system, eliminate corporate income taxes and it wants Florida to stop giving tax credits to attract businesses.

And while saying they are not in the endorsement business, on Friday they sent every legislative candidate a copy of their new five-point solutions for the state. The intent is to get candidates to endorse the plan and promote the ones who have gotten behind the effort.

Rick Scott Roundly Unhappy With University Tuition Hikes

Gov. Rick Scott must have gotten a surprise Thursday. Though he didn't say if he would step in tounilaterally take corrective action, he at least let it be known that hes disappointed.

A day after Scott said he would be surprised if the 17-member state Board of Governors, of which the governor appoints 14, would approve significant tuition hikes for the states 11 universities, four were given the maximum increase allowed.

The four are Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, University of Central Florida and New College.

The cost to drive Floridas Turnpike, from Interstate 75 to Homestead, will jump by more than $3 Sunday morning for most SunPass users.

Those paying cash should expect to dole out nearly $4 morethan they currently pay.

Crossing the Sunshine Skyway will require an additional quarter, or for someone driving to and from work five days a week, with four weeks of vacation time, that could mean an additional $120 a year.

Scott Still Supports E-Verify, Now as National Policy

Gov. Rick Scott says his position on E-Verify hasnt changed.

Hes just not pursuing the business regulation that has been opposed by business and agricultural interests because he said he doesnt want to put Florida companies at a competitive disadvantage with rival firms in other states and countries.

Scott went on the airwaves in Jacksonville on Thursday to defend his call for a federal immigration policy that includes the requirement that businesses nationwide use the federal visa verifying system to check the legal status of new employees.

Rick Scott: I Care About Unemployment, Not My Poll Numbers

Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday he is less concerned about his approval ratings than the unemployment mark.

When asked following an appearance before the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, Scott didnt directly address the results of a Quinnipiac University poll released earlier in the day that indicated Floridians have a low opinion of their governor.

The number I look at every month is our unemployment rate, Scott told reporters at the Leon County Civic Center event.

Rick Scott Would Be 'Surprised' if Board OKs Significant Tuition Hikes

Gov. Rick Scott, who earlier this year vetoed a proposal that would have allowed universities to seek unlimited tuition hikes, doesnt believe the state Board of Governors will back the maximum hikes requested on Thursday.

Scott wouldnt say if he is considering a means to block the 15 percent tuition hikes that have been requested by eight of the states 11 public universities if the proposals are approved by the Board of Governors.

Florida: Keeping Noncitizens from Voting a 'Year-Round Obligation'

Florida officials continue to fend off a mounting number of attempts to halt work clearing non-U.S. citizens from the voter rolls.

On Tuesday, a coalition of civil rights groups -- groups that adamantly claim to be nonpartisan -- filed a lawsuit charging Florida with race discrimination for how it has gone about trying to find people ineligible from voting on the county registration lists.

Secretary of State spokesman Chris Cate responded that race and party are not being considered.

Mickey Mouse Move Means Big Bu$ine$$ for JaxPort

Florida scored a major victory Tuesday in its fight to build up its seaports against nearby East Coast competition.

Walt Disney Co. announced Tuesday that a major portion of its merchandise to be sold at Disney parks and facilities in Florida would now come through JaxPort, shifting the bulk of its ship unloading from the Port of Savannah, from where many of the China-made mouse ears and princess gowns were then trucked to Central Florida.
