Isaac Going Slow Across Cuba ‘Would be Great for Everybody’

A tropical storm watch for Isaac is now in effect across the Florida Keys, and along Floridas east coast from the Jupiter Inlet south and on the west coast from south of Bonita Beach, Florida Bay and Lake Okeechobee.

But state emergency officials, who have supply lines pre-set to go out from Orlando and Jacksonville, say it remains too early, with the fate of the storms strength and direction depending upon its interaction with the hilly terrain of Cuba this weekend.

Jeff Atwater Promoting Forum to Help Small Businesses Help Florida

Florida's Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater is seeking a little give-and-take with a group of small-business owners that may assist efforts to revamp federal financial laws or identify state regulations that need to be repealed.

Following the Republican National Convention next week, Atwater will be participating in a small-business forum in Tampa with the Jim Moran Institute at Florida State University.

The forecast track for Tropical Storm Isaac continues to show a western move away from close contact with the Republican National Convention.

But the Florida Keys and the western side of the state, particularly the Panhandle, remain in the potential path of the storm that still must cross Haiti and a large portion of Cuba. And that could impact the strength of the storm.

For the convention, the potential for heavy impacts diminishes with the latest forecast.

Because of the potential impact of Tropical Storm Isaac on the upcoming four-day Republican National Convention,Gov. Rick Scott and soon-to-be Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney have linked up in earnest.

Scott has also been on the phone with state and federal storm officials, along with organizers for the Republican National Convention.

But as of Thursday afternoon, there were no plans to make any changes to the mega-national event.

After discussing Tropical Storm Isaac with state storm leaders and convention hosts, Gov. Rick Scott said late Thursday morning that there are no plans to cancel the Republican National Convention.

Were so many days out, we have a plan in case there is a hurricane, Scott told the media while at Floridas Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee just before noon on Thursday.

Were hoping it continues to go west and dissipates.

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami, are on the stage for the final night of the Republican National Convention at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Mack, who is challenging longtime U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Orlando, for the U.S. Senate, gives the night's first remarks, shortly after the national anthem and invocation.

Rubio gets a more key spot on the national stage, introducing Mitt Romney as soon as the former Massachusetts governor is nominated for president.

Rick Scott: ‘We’re Going to Be Prepared for Isaac’

At a time when the nation's eyes will be on the Sunshine State for the Republican National Convention, state leaders and National Hurricane Center Officials are tracking the potential paths of Tropical Storm Isaac.

The system is making its way toward the Florida Keys, Tampa and the Panhandle at a rate that could put it in the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Gov. Rick Scott said Florida, which has a long history of dealing with hurricanes and tropical storms, is going to be prepared for Isaac.
