Rick Scott removed Campbell from office on Monday, hours after the two-term commissioner and longtime Niceville parks and recreation director was arrested for allegedly failing to fully disclose money on his annual Florida Commission on Ethics Public Disclosure of Financial Interests.

Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, former University of Florida President John Lombardi, University of North Florida President John Delaney and former UF football standout and coach Steve Spurrier are on a list of candidates to replace retiring UF President Bernie Machen.

However, the three-dozen-deep roster shouldnt be viewed as a finalist list as the names are of people nominated for the post.

Cannon and Delaney have publicly professed to be flattered but uninterested.

Still, the gradual, slow-but-steady growth is better than at least the prior six years, state economists said.
