Tampa is hosting the Republican National Convention 13 months from now, but the home state could seat only half of its total delegates if Florida refuses to move its current primary date.
Florida's presidential preference primary is currently scheduled for Jan. 31, 2012. Legislative leaders will likely move the date, but RNC rules prohibit most states from holding primaries ahead of March 1.
"There's a punishment in place (for moving the primary ahead) and it's half the delegates. That's firm and it will be in place," RNC spokesperson Ryan Tronovitch said.
Citizens Property Insurance policyholders could be facing a dramatic rise in their sinkhole coverage. Its board voted 4-0 Wednesday to increase sinkhole premiums for homeowner policies by 430 percent statewide.
Board members cited the sharp rise in sinkhole claims and the company's subsequent losses as the need for the increase. In 2010, Citizens took in $32 million in sinkhole premiums, but paid out $245 million in claims.
Floridas Agency for Health Care Administration began making plans to move the states long-term care Medicaid recipients into managed care plans Tuesday, but it has until Monday to submit the federal waiver request necessary to implement the changes.
The move of long-term care patients into managed care plans is part of the fundamental Medicaid reforms passed by the Legislature this year.
