WASHINGTON -- One of my great hopes for a Barack Obama administration -- and thus one of my personal disappointments -- was that he would use his bully pulpit to emphasize the importance of a two-parent family, and especially of fathers, to children's well-being.
I'm in the camp that believes Republicans have no choice but to agree to raise taxes on the top 2 percent of earners. The party has been successfully caricatured as the servant of the rich.

Besides revelry, this new year will ring in $500 billion in tax hikes and $110 billion in spending cuts unless Congress and the president can come together to steer clear of the "fiscal cliff" beforehand.

The Common Core State Standards have been causing controversy over the last few months, with many parents, teachers and members of the public calling for changes to the national education benchmarks. It appears the Florida Department of Education is listening, because the department is nowproposing making dozens of changes to the standards, including several changes in both math and English language arts standards.

Attorney Joe Davidow placed last with less than 1.5 percent in an open Republican congressional primary in 2012, placing far behind Trey Radel. With Radel under fire for pleading guilty to cocaine possession, Davidow threw his support behind former state Rep. Paige Kreegel who is challenging the incumbent in Augusts primary. Kreegel placed third in the primary Radel won in 2012.
