After 10 Glorious Years, Sunshine State News and I Are Passing the Baton

President Barack Obamas idea to establish a fund to compensate people who are economically hurt by the oil spill in the Gulf is being supported by one of Floridas leading Democrats. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has become our nations worst environmental disaster and the economic impact brewing in our state deepens as the oil reaches our shores, said Sen. Dan Gelber, D-North Miami, who is locked in a tight battle with Sen. Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres, for the Democratic attorney general nomination.

On Monday, Bill McCollum claimed to be the first to call for a BP escrow fund (though that was quickly disputed by state Sen. Dave Aronberg, D-Greenacres, who said he floated the idea previously). Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., called for BP American President Lamar McKay to quit. "It's really outrageous that you sit here and tell us that you're going to punt to the unified command when we have 11 people killed, we've had huge environmental damage, and you're still sitting here as a CEO of BP," Stearns said at a congressional hearing.

As anyone who ever studied the Clinton/Gore operation in 1992 can tell you, a campaign needs to put together a rapid response team. Its even more important in 2010 with the continued expansion of cable television and internet based news organizations. Jeff Greenes team gets this. They sent out a media release earlier this morning with their candidates response to President Obamas call for BP to set up an escrow account for problems resulting from the oil spill in the Gulf.

The score 37-7 sounds like a lopsided football final, but it's actually how many sheriffs backed Adam Putnam over Scott Maddox -- though it may be more like 36-6, since one sheriff apparently wanted to hedge his bets and endorse both of them.
