While proponents of the Everglades-U.S. Sugar deal hailed a federal judge's favorable ruling this week, opponents of the purchase say, "Not so fast." U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno on Monday rejected the Miccosukee Tribe's request for an injunction. The decision was applauded by Kirk Fordham, CEO of the Everglades Foundation.

Florida's string of consecutive monthly gains in home sales was broken in July, as Realtors reported a 14 percent decrease from a year ago. Meantime, the streak of declining sales prices continued -- down 7 percent to a median of $138,000. Florida Association of Realtors President Wendell Davis, noting sharp drops in some Panhandle markets, cited the BP oil spill as a retarding factor. But that didn't deter condominium buyers, as sales rose 11 percent statewide. Of course, condo prices were down again -- off 20 percent.

Having been the first member of Congress to call for U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithners resignation back in March 2009, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack joined with U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner in repeating the call. I agree with Leader Boehner that Secretary Geithner should step down, said Mack. From his questionable role in the AIG bailout to his mishandling of our economic recovery, Secretary Geithner has been a disappointment from the start.

Normally, Floridas successful Race to the Top application to receive extra federal education funds would have the politicians crawling out of the woodwork to comment on the matter but, with primary elections on Tuesday, few have emerged to talk about it.
