North Korea's recent temper tantrum over U.S.-South Korean military exercises and its threat to pull out of its upcoming summit with President Trump are signs that Trump's North Korea strategy is working.

EMILY's List sure has strange ways of deciding when and where it wants to jump into other people’s business.

Anybody who served in or around the Florida Legislature while Rep. Gayle Harrell represented Stuart and Port St. Lucie knows Gayle’s husband, James.

The path to today's problems with Iran passed through the University of Chicago squash court where on Dec. 2, 1942, for 4.5 minutes physicist Enrico Fermi, making calculations on a slide rule, achieved the controlled release of energy from an atomic nucleus. Historian Richard Rhodes says that Fermi and his colleagues were risking "a small Chernobyl in the midst of a crowded city."

Maggy Hurchalla, Craig Pittman and George Lindemann Jr.
Tampa Bay Times reporter Craig Pittman undermined the public's trust of venerable news organizations with his May 12 article, “Only in Florida: Battle over water, free speech pits billionaire vs. activist.”

Before President Trump, U.S. presidential candidates had for decades vowed they’d move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, even though moving the embassy is a requirement of a 1990s U.S. law. That law was regularly waived by Trump’s predecessors, going back to former President Bill Clinton, on the theory that such a move would impede the elusive “peace process” that never seemed to attract any Palestinian interest.

Democrats routinely express outrage over claims of collusion with a foreign power to undermine our democracy. So where is the outrage over revelations that former secretary of state John Kerry held not one but two secret meetings with Iran's foreign minister to strategize over how to undermine President Trump's plans to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal?

When it comes to global politics, a number of Florida politicians have shown they may be better focused on local issues. As crucial as international issues can be, changing positions based solely on partisan positions effectively neutralizes one’s credibility on the matter.

Rick Scott
With the campaign of Gov. Rick Scott just a few weeks old, the Florida Democratic Party has already begun its counter-offensive, and it looks to be rooted in the party's lack of knowledge concerning campaign law.

Carpetbagger candidates leave me cold. You know the ones I mean. The politicians who move to a jurisdiction they've never lived in before for the express purpose of running for office.

From Scotland, where Adam Smith pioneered systematic thinking about economics, comes an adjective, "carnaptious," that fits people who are allergic to economic euphoria. It means cantankerous. Let's think carnaptiously about this fact: The interest rate on 10-year Treasury bonds recently rose briefly to 3 percent, and soon may move above this. This is more than evidence of the economy's strength. It also is a harbinger of a coming day when the great driver of the national debt will be ... the national debt. Pour a Scotch and read on.

Mitt Romney, Donald Trump and John Kasich
Recent presidents who have not won second full terms have struggled winning the New Hampshire primary despite the benefits of being incumbents--but Donald Trump is in excellent shape in the Granite State, a poll released last week finds.

The prospect of winning the Nobel Peace Prize is understandably tantalizing for President Trump. After all the contempt he has faced from the political establishment, watching liberal heads explode at the suggestion by South Korean President Moon Jae-in that he deserves the award must be gratifying. It would be even more gratifying to watch the collective meltdown as he delivered his Nobel acceptance speech.

A young Florida woman who literally fears for her life needs a champion. I'm hoping it will be Attorney General Pam Bondi.
