This week, Congress passed a measure backed by Florida’s two U.S. senators on the Coast Guard, sending it to President Barack Obama’s desk. 

From his perch as chairman of the U.S. Senate Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard Subcommittee, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, brought out a bill focused on improving the Coast Guard over the summer. Rubio was joined in his efforts by U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., the ranking Democrat on the subcommittee, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and U.S. Sen. John Thune, R-S.D.

Florida Delegation Divides on Party Lines as GOP Attempts to Override Obamacare Repeal Veto

Members of the Florida delegation split on party lines as Republicans in the U.S. House failed to override enough voters on Tuesday failed to override President Barack Obama’s veto of a bill ending much of his signature health-care law and defunding Planned Parenthood. 

On a party lines vote, the override garnered 241 votes while 186 members of Congress stood against it.   

After the override went down, U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., looked ahead to November. 

Congress Passes Vern Buchanan's Proposal for More Means Testing for Public Housing Applicants
