USDA Sends $20 Million to UF, UCF, Other Facilities to Battle Citrus Greening

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Monday that it is sending more than $20 million in awards to universities for projects to help battle Huanglongbing (HLB), better known as citrus greening. Almost $9 million of those funds are headed to universities in the Sunshine State.

Now, lawmakers are starting to consider if an early start to the regular session should be repeated in two years.
 
The House Government Operations Appropriations Subcommittee on Monday backed a proposal (PCB GOAS 16-01) that calls for the 2018 session to begin Jan. 9 rather than in March.

Fighting to stay alive after the New Hampshire debate, Republican presidential hopeful former Gov. Jeb Bush, R-Fla., is making his campaign a family affair as he trots out members of one of America’s leading political dynasties to help his bid. 

Bush is one of a number of candidates battling for second place in New Hampshire behind businessman Donald Trump who leads the polls in the Granite State. Other Republican hopefuls in the running for second are Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, Gov. John Kasich of Ohio and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.
