On Monday, two congressmen from Florida -- Republican Brian Mast and Democrat Darren Soto -- paired up to proposal a bill making it easier to have congressional offices inside U.S.  Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities.

Mast and Soto unveiled the “Improving Veterans Access to Congressional Services Act” to streamline the process for members of Congress to have offices in VA facilities.  

More than 100 inmates condemned to death could face a major upheaval, as a revamped Florida Supreme Court ponders whether to undo a 2016 ruling that allowed nearly half of the state’s Death Row prisoners to have their death sentences revisited.

With a conservative bloc of justices led by Chief Justice Charles Canady now in the majority, the court has begun the process of reconsidering whether changes to Florida’s death penalty-sentencing system should continue being applied retroactively to cases dating to 2002.

U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., the top Republican on the U.S. House Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee, was honored last week for his work on ports issues. 

The Florida Republican was honored by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) as the 2019 “Port Person of the Year” with that group praising Diaz-Balart as a “committed supporter of the port industry and has fought to bring millions of dollars to improve infrastructure and development for ports across the nation.”

Florida misunderstands, says Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan. DHS isn't labeling any city or county in the Sunshine State a sanctuary city and that's certainly not why the agency is moving migrants in.

“Our transportation is based on necessity and capacity to process safely, so that’s what we’re doing," McAleenan said Sunday morning on CBS's "Face The Nation" when asked if Florida was being picked on because it has cities that don't cooperate with federal immigration authorities.  

Most Americans oppose a Medicare for All program once they understand what it means and how much it would cost, a Health Tracking poll conducted by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) reveals.

The poll found that a majority of people -- 56 percent -- favor a Medicare for All (M4A) single-payer healthcare system when no details about how much it would cost are provided.

As Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a death warrant last month for serial killer Bobby Joe Long, the governor’s office released a chilling description of the murder of Michelle Simms.

“On or about May 27, 1984, Long approached Simms, and she entered his car,” the description said. “Long drove Simms to a remote location, forced her to undress at knife point, and tied her to the car seat. Long then raped Simms and attempted to strangle her. When his attempts failed, he hit her head with a club and pushed her from the car. Long slit her throat and left her on the side of the road to die.”

When Gov. Ron DeSantis held a quickly called news conference Tuesday, he dropped a bombshell: Two Florida counties were hacked by Russians before the 2016 elections.

DeSantis said he received the information during a briefing with the FBI, confirming longstanding speculation and reports about Russians trying to get into Florida voting systems.

But the governor emphasized that the hacking did not involve “manipulation” of voting results.

The Department of Homeland Security  confirmed Thursday it will transport approximately 500 migrants per month from a Mexican border camp in El Paso to both Broward and Palm Beach Counties, blindsiding Tallahassee and sending unprepared South Florida authorities into a blind panic.

According to Reuters, senior government officials said moving migrants out of camps is the first step in a plan to harden border security and overhaul the legal immigration system to favor applicants who speak English, are well-educated and have job offers. 

New allegations, including comments about “old” employees and “rednecks,” have been leveled against Florida’s top financial regulator, who was put on administrative leave last week amid an investigation into a sexual-harassment complaint.

State Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis late Friday announced that Office of Financial Regulation Commissioner Ronald Rubin had been placed on leave. Since then, two more allegations have been released about the conduct of Rubin, who landed the $166,000-a-year state job in February.

Rubin has not responded to requests for comment.
